Your neighbourhood was one of the major reasons why you chose to live where you did. It’s the environment that surrounds your lifestyle and adds an element of seclusion or convenience to your day-to-day life.
Neighbourhoods in and around the city are full of people, places and things to do. There are businesses, shops, restaurants and other stores to get everything you need.
But, what if you are new to the neighbourhood or have just stayed in certain places the whole time you have been living there?
Sometimes exploring and being a tourist in your own area can help bring more joy to where you live.
Here are 5 ways you can explore the neighbourhood around you:
1. Taking a stroll
Sometimes all you need to do is take a stroll down a new street, through a park you haven’t walk through before or maybe step inside a new store. Taking a walk can be the catalyst to discovering new places and provide a change of routine from your daily life.
2. Finding natural paths around you
Have you ever checked to see if there was a natural path or bike path around you? A lot of the areas in the Greater Toronto Area have connections to many different walking or biking paths, which could lead to new neighbourhoods connected with yours. Best thing to do is look up your neighbourhood on a map and see where those natural paths take you.
3. Using social networks
One of the best ways you can learn more about your neighbourhood is by going online and using websites like BlogTO, Yelp, Strumm, Foursquare, Google Maps and TripAdvisor to find new places around you. You might find new restaurants, stores and new things to do around your area.
4. Asking your friends and neighbours who live around the area
One of the best ways to find out more about your area is by talking to people who live there! If you talk to business owners, your neighbours, or even if you ask someone you pass by on the sidewalk, you might find your next favourite spot and learn more about the history of the neighbourhood you live in.
5. Check out community boards, Jane’s Walk and Meetup events
Finally, with meet up events, community boards and the famous Jane’s Walk, you can find out more about the place you live and meet more people in your neighbourhood, enriching your life there and becoming a better addition to your community
With these 5 ways listed above, you too can be a tourist in your own neighbourhood and discover more about where you live.
